90 Minute IPA

Dogfish Head

Dogfish Head

Milton, Delaware

This beer pours great with just the right amount of head which is maintained through the session.

It has a rich complex taste with a strong carmel-malt backbone and dark fruitcake notes of raisin, fig and apricot which stands up great to the heavy hop load.

The beer is brewed with continual hopping over the 90 minute boil. The story is that founder Sam Calagione originally rigged an electric vibrating football game over the brew kettle to slowly shake hop pellets into the boil. Which if you know Sam is most likly true.

This beer was first released in 2001 and has stood the test of time.

If you like malty IPA's than this is one for you to try or peryhaps revisit.

La Sombra

Live Oak Brewing Co

Del Valley, TX

(Across from Austin Airport.)

The beer pours great with good head which maintains through out the session.

As you pour it you can smell the Vienna and Munich malt that was used to brew the beer. This dediction to old world brewing is carried through with the use of German Saphir and Mittelfrüh hops.

This is a great example of a Mexican-Syle Dark Lager with its heritage coming froma style most people do not recogize. A little know fact is that all Mexican Lagers have their heritage from German Lagers.

Vienna lager is a smooth, copper-to-reddish-amber bottom-fermented beer style created in 1841 by Anton Dreher at the Schwechat Brewery near Vienna, Austria

The taste is toasted, bready, and nutty malt character with a crisp finish and a subtle, clean noble hop bitterness; less heavy or sweet than a Märzen.

(La Sombra trahslates to the shadow.)

This is a great beer with Mexican food or just as a session beer. If you want add a little kick try a slice of lime in the beer.

(Other examples of the style are Dos Equis Amber, Negro Mondelo and Indio.)

West Coast Pils

Farm Boy Brewing

Houston, TX

The beer pours with good head which is maintained through out the session.

This beer is an American take on the traditional Pilsner, meaning the hopped it up with American hops specifically El Dorado and Idaho 7 hops. This is a hop forward beer which highlights the hoppyness of El Dorado and Idaho 7.

If you like your pilsner on the hoppy side than this is for you. If your not a hops fan than proceed lightly.

Over all the beer is very drinkable with no off flavors.

Farm Boy opened in April of 2026 so they are still getting their feet wet and I expect great things from them. They have a unique buisness structure as they offer a home brew shop, full bar and craft beer taps. The facility is ACed and has a nice feel the the building.

Pecan Ale Geauz Nuts

Abita Brewing

Covington, LA

The beer pours nice with good head which disipates quickly but it maintains carbonation through out the session.

I had high hopes for this beer as I like pecans. Brewed with pale, Munich, biscuit and carmel malts and then hopped with WIllamette hops the idea of roasted pecans had me hopful for a grand experience. Unfortunetly it was not to be.

The beer has no aroma followed by not any real flavor. Now there are no off flavors but from the first sip you are left wondering where the beer flavor is and more so where are the pecans? Did they use one pecan fot the entire batch?

If you advertise snozzberry I want to taste and experience the snozzberry not wonder if one passed by the brewery on the day it was brewed!

I want to stress that the beer is not offensive. It just has very little flavor!

Give it a try and let me kow if your experience differes.

Oh, "Geauz" is Cajun slang for "go" and is pronounced "go". Now you know.

Wicked Carmel Apple

Spoetzl Brewery

Shinner, TX

This beer pours nice with good head but that discipates quickly.

This beer was recommended by one of our patrons. They said it was fantastic and tasted like a carmel apple in a beer which gave us great hope for a Halloween Beer! Unfortunatly this was not my experience.

The beer opens with a great green apple aroma which led us (tasted by brew chief and adult daughter) to have hope for a grand experience.

Unfortunelty we where ALL quickly disappointed at first sip! But give them credit the name did hold up. Now perhaps our bottle was bad but what we tasted was not to be enjoyed! Bad medicine or apple peals comes to mind. Needless to say no one finished their sample.

This is one that I would try again from a different location just in case our bottle was bad.

The things we do in the name of Science!

If you try this beer and have a different experience please let me know!!
