Double Art Car

Saint Arnold Brewing

Houston, TX

Double Art Car IPA is everything we love about Art Car IPA – amplified! Big hop aroma, a slight malt backbone to provide balance, and a clean finish that doesn’t leave a bitter ending – it’s all here. Made with 2-Row Pale, Cara 45 and Carafoam malts.

This beer pours with great and that maintians throughtout the session. While you might think that this is just Art Car with more alcohol you would be wrong. This is has a very West Coast Old School IPA taste being that it is malt forward with a nice hops finish.

I had this in the tap room on tap and it was awesome. While I was there they did have a limited amount available in package but I will warn you that even though its good in can it is by far better on tap which should come as no surprise.!

If you are a Double IPA fan than this is for you!

Allons

Frost Town Brewing

Houston, TX

I had the chance to visit Frost Town this past weekend. I went in for there Kolsh but found a new favorite.

This beer pours great and maintains carbonation through out the session. It is crisp and clean which makes it a great companion for crawfish which is why I was there. This is a great session beer as it is only 4.6% and with only 12 IBUs it does not over power.

So what is a French Pilsner?

A French Pilsner is a type of pale lager that blends the crisp, refreshing qualities of traditional pilsners with unique ingredients from France. It typically features French malts, like Jehanne D’arc Pilsen malts, and hops from regions such as Alsace, known for their herbal, floral, and sometimes citrusy characteristics. The result is a beer that offers a delightful balance of bready malt flavors, honey notes, and a touch of spiciness, making it a distinct and flavorful take on the classic pilsner style.

Racer 5 IPA

Bear Repulbic Brewing Co

The beee pours with plenty of carbonation and settles with a nice foam head that is maintained throughout the tasteing.

This beeris a full bodied beer brewed with malted barley, wheat, and crystal malts. The malt base is designed to highlight the unique floral qualities of Columbus and Cascade hops from the Pacific Northwest.

In full discloser the beer has been around since 1996 but it continues to be a great example of as traditional West Coast IPA.

If you like West Coast style than this is one to try!!

Lucky Devil

Lucky 19 Brewing CO

Huntsville, TX

The beer pours with little carbonation and that quickly disipates. While I can tell what they are going for I find that it taste a wee bit old but with no packageing date I really have no idea how old it is.

I would like to try this at the tap room. While the beer is not bad there are better examples on the market that I would pick before buying this one again. That is unless I could be sure it was fresh. Lucky 19 does good beer so I may have just gotten on old can.

Sherman Bock

903 Brewing

Sherman, TX

The beer pours great and maintains carbonation through out the session. It has a great color and smells as a traditional bock should.

It smells a wee bit sweeter than I expect a bock to and it taste a wee bit sweeter than one would expect from a traditional bock. Coming in at 7.1 % it is anything but traditional. While it has no off flavors I find it a bit to sweet for my taste.

It you like sweet Bocks with a wee bit more than average alcohol than this is your beer!

BONUS: For Science

Margarita Max Topo Chico

TC Hard Seltzer Company

Milwaukee, WI

Yes the is a Seltzer, hence the BONUS beverage!

First, I truely believe that Seltzers are the cancer of the Craft Beer Industry but it is important to explore and know the market. So with that in mind I tried the Margarita Max Topo Chico. Why this one welll I like Topo Chico and I like Margaritas so....... for Science!

Over all the drink is very palatetable. It poured with carbonation and looked like a margarita. The flavor is that of a Margarita you might get in a cheap Mexican restaurant that served watered down margaritas.

As part of my Science experiment I then added crushed ice which did improve the experience. If I was to try this again I think I might try freezing the can and then putting it in a blender.

The expeinece was not bad but I think it needs some tequila!

I am not the target audience for this beverage. If I want a margarita (which I do enjoy) I'll just order one but I do see the attraction to the younger audience. It is not beer, It is gluten free, it is pool or beach friendly and its cheap ($3.27 for 24 ounces for an 8% beverage).

Side note: The parent company of the brewery is Molson Coors and it is sold under an agreement with Coke-Cola.
