30th Anniversary Grand Cru

Saint Arnold Brewery

Houston, Tx

Ok I must admit that it the wrong time of year for this beer but I had to take one for the team. This is beer is for you Louie!!!

To celebrate Saint Arnolds 30th Anniversary they took their Commitment Imperial Stout, aged in a variety of different bourbon and whiskey barrels for different durations – between two and four years. The barrels were then blended into sweet and fortified wine barrels: Madeira, Tokaji, and Tawny Port for additional aging. Finally, these barrels were blended a second time to create our Grand Cru.

This beer comes in at a wopping 16.8% so it is not to be shotgunned. This is a beer that should be enjoyed in front of a fire place in a sniffer over an extended period of time. Perhaps even to be shared with a close freind.

This is very rich and decadent. Bourbon and red wine flavors are strong. Figs. Boozy. If your so inclinded this would be a great cigar beer.

If I had one complaint is that I wish it was a wee bit more carbonated.

Double Yellow Rose

Lone Pint Brewery

Magnolia, TX

This is Lone Pint's 10th Anniversary Brew. What they have done is bumped up their Yellow Rose and tanken it from 6.2 % and 62 IBU and increased it to 10% and 90 IBUS. : Double Yellow Rose

It has great carbinaiton with just a more intense flavor compared to Yellow Rose.

Made with Pilsner malt and Mosaic hops.

If you like double IPAs then this is one for you!

Little Yellow Rose, Little IPA

Lone Pint Brewery

Magnolia, TX

Good carbonation and nice lace. As advertised this is a lot light than Yellow Rose. While it ghas a slight grapefruit, pineapple aroma I find the taste to be grassy. To me it is to lite but if your looking for a lite IPA this may be for you.

Made with Pilsner malt, and Mosaic hops.

Lemon Shandy

Spotzel Brewing Co

Shiner, TX

Shiner came out with a new shandy so I figured why not give it a try.

This is brewed with agave, premium 2-row and wheat malts, and Spoetzl Brewery’s very own lemonade made with cane sugar..

It pours with little to no carbonation which may just be the case for the bottle I tried. While you can taste lemons it really taste more like lemon peels. It is very lite in body and flavor.

I must admit that I am not a big shandy person but if this had more carbonation I would find it to be a great refreshing summer drink. Perhaps I will seek a second bottle to compare to.

If you like shandys then deffenetly try this one.

Porch Rocker, Lemmon Raddler

Sam Adams Brewing

Boston, MA

This is Sam Adams attempt to do a Bavarian Raddler. I say attempt because in my opinion they fell a litte short. While it has a lite smell of lemonaid there is almost no flavor of lemmons and only a slight taste of grain.

Perhaps I am to hard but if it says lemmon I want to taste the lemmon.

Made with two-row pale malt, Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops and lemon puree.

On a possitive note the carbonation is done well.
