Covered in Nuggs |
Milton, DE | Dogfish does a lot of beers some of which I am not the target audience but in this case they scored a direct hit. This is what a core American IPA should taste like. The are work is interesting and the name is different but the beer is a basic IPA and yes that is a good thing. It pours with a nice head and maintains good lace and carbination throughout the experience. Slight fruit taste with a nice lingering hop taste at the end. Made with Golden Promis malt they have piled on the Citra, Simcoe, Amarillo and Centennial hops to build up a sticky heap of lupulin goodness. The only way they could have improved it was by dry hopping with cascades, LOL. If you like IPA's then this is for you!

Royal Blood |
Carrollton, TX | This beer pours with a nice white head and you can imediatly smell the oranges. This delightfully refreshing Belgian-style Wheat Beer is clever and witty in its own right. Four different types of citrus peel and a generous addition of blood orange produce a huge aroma with subtle hints of tropical fruit and peppery spice. I brought in the Brew Cheif (AKA wife) to taste this one since one of the few beer styles she likes is a belgain wheat. She gave it a 4.4 which is high praise comeing from her. Seriouly, if you like belgain-style wheats and you like oranges then this is right up you r alley. This woudl be a great warm spring afternoon beer. |

Tropic Boom Imperial IPA |
Houston, TX | I am not sure where to start with this new beer out from my friends at Saint Arnold but lets start with I am not the target audience for this beer, a fact I have already let them know. lol For Sciencer, I have had this at the tap room and in package and on tap is better as it always is. (Always try a beer more than once.) Ok, so what right with this beer. Well it pours with good head and maintains carbonation. As the name implies it is a tropical fruit explosion of flavors. Let mango and apricot slam your senses, and follow it up with a smooth, honeyed sweetness and a dry finish. It smells sweet and fruity. Think Jolly Ranchers or Fruit Rollups or even Fruity Pepples. The flavor is the same is maintained throught out the drinking experience. OH, did I mention it weighs in at 9.5%??? This is one that will catch you by surprise and sneak up behind you. Watch out, this is not a chugging kind of beer. Made with 2-row, Pilsner, White Wheat, Acidulated malt. They hop it with Pahto (a new hop for me), Citra, and Mosaic hops. All fermented with a Dry English Ale yeast. So what is wrong with it? Well my biggest issue is in the catagory they have it in. They label it an Imperial IPA but it only has 27 IBUs. Pecos Amber Lager
|
Taylor, TX | This is an interesting beer. It pours with good foam. It is made with 2-ro2 and Red X (a German malt with properties of both Munich and Crystal malts which produces a a red tint.) Then they hop with Amarillo hops. This beer won a Gold Medal Winner at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival. For me it is a bit to sweet and reminds me of a cross between a Shinner Bock and a brown ale. The can I had was packaged 12/10/24 but I wonder if was not left out somewhere to get warm. I would like to try this on tap and fresher. |

Made in the Shade |
Huntsville, TX | Ok, I am not a Shandy kind of guy but one must explore all styles if you are to be well rounded. The beer pours with nice headand has a Lemon Zest smell which stays with with you as you drink. If I had a complaint is that it could use less beer favor after all it is a shandy. This shandy is brewed with cascade and magnum hops, delivering a slightly sweet, light-bodied pour with a touch of tartness. If you like the style it is one to try. Lucky 19 does good stuff. |

Something a wee bit different. A review of a NON-ALCOHOL beer. It is a big trend. | |||||||||||||
Upside Dawn Golden |
San Diego, CA | This brewery only brews None Alcohol Beers. Now before you ask why brew NA beers I will tell you that there is a growing number of individuals that for varying reasons as moving to NA products. This example pours with nice foam but that disipated as you dring the beverage. Over all the flavor is nice. It is a bit thin in mouth feel but I find most NA beers are thin to taste. Its not offensive and could be an alturnitive for those who are looking for one. They brew this with malt and hops and then remove the alcohol chemially and they remove the gluten as well. What I find extremely funny is that they say it is gluten free but then they state " Brewed with premium malts and American hops. Crafted to remove gluten*. *This product is fermented from grains containing gluten and crafted to remove gluten. The gluten content of this product cannot be verified, and this product may contain gluten." So its gluten free but it cannot be verified. LOL I understand that this disclosure is to protect them from law suites and that they are removing the gluten chemically after the beer is fermented but it just struck me as funny. |
