Duvel Tripel Hop Citera |
Breendonk, Belgium |
I ran in to this beer while traveling in the Hill Country and was intreged. To see Belgain and IPA together much less a Tripel hopped was just to much, I had to try it. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The Blonde Belgian style beer is there but with a hop finish. As it warmed up the Belgian candy falvor started to show through with slight hop end which made for a very unique and enjoyable taste. To top of the recommendation the Brew Chief, (AKA wife) tried it and she also liked the flavor especially once it warmed up. Duvel is a well known beer who seems to be exploring hops. They took their Blonde Belgian and hopped it with imported (American) hops. To be specific Saaz-Saaz, Styrian Golding & Citra from Yakima Valley, Washington, USA). The final product is a not only tasty but it comes in at 9.5% so this is one to sip and enjoy over a period of time! I highly recommend you try this one if you like Belgain styles and prefere a little more hops or if you just want to try something different.

Nice N Clean |
Austin, TX | This is nice example of a Pre-Prohibition Lager. It pour nice and keeps its carbonaiton throught out the session. I am also happy to say that Holdout has kept to tradition production a nice grainy but clean flavor with a nice suttle hop finish. This is a nice Texas afternoon beer!
Pre-Prohibition Lager is a historical American beer style brewed by 19th-century German immigrants who adapted traditional European pilsners to local U.S. ingredients, featuring robust 6-row barley, 20% to 30% corn or rice adjuncts, and native cluster hops for a rustic, grainy, and moderately bitter profile. |

Famsoa |
Guatemala City, Guatemala | Some beers come with a story and this is one. I was standing in the beer section of my local grocery store staring at the beer seleciton as I often do when an older gentleman started to talk to me. (Hey its the beer Isle and thats what beer drinkers do.) He suggested a beer from his home country of Guatemala. He said it was very popular there but that it went by another name. It was called Cerveza Gallo there. Looking at the label the picture made more since. Famosa beer is called Gallo (Cerveza Gallo) in Guatemala. (Gallo is Spanish for Rooster.) (Famosa is Spanish for Famous.) The original formula of Famosa Beer (Gallo) was created in 1896 by German brewmaster Spitz. Its original recipe is maintained to this day, with over 129 years of history. The brewery was opened in 1886 and the main plant is still used today. The beer pours great with a good head which maintains through out the session. The flavor is similar to an old sytle German lager but with a slitghtly more grainy taste. It reminds me of other Mexian Lager but with more flavor. The 24 oz can also provides a nice amount of beer to enjoy. Would I get it again? Yes! This would go great with Mexican food! Give it a try and let me know. Sometimes you have to try new things!

Pretty and Pink |
Houston, TX | The beer pours great and maintaince a nice amount of head. It definetly reminds me of Eclipse which I am not a fan of but this version is a bit more mellow.
Benefitting the Houston Chapter of the Pink Boots Society. This is a version of Eclipse IPA with a specialty selected alternative dry hop, |

Lytt Strawberry Rita
|
Boston, MA | What can I say! Sometimes you have to try new things in order to grow and learn. In this case I learned to ask why? Why would you do this? To be totaly honest the packaging got me. Its a lightbulb and its called Lytt!!! Then it had 15% ABV! What could go wrong?? In this case a lot went wrong and it wenty quickly. It pours nice and smelled like stawberry. Then I tried a taste!! NOPE!!!! This taste like cold medicine you take when you about to die!! Before I state the obviouse, my wife and youngest (of age) daughter both tried it. They both had the same response and that was WHY???? FYI, none of us finished our sample. On the bright side I have a neat lightbulb shaped bottel and story to tell. If you brave pick a bottle up and share it with a group of "friend"! It will be a conversation starter! Mad in conjustion with the Boston Beer Company. |
