Real Ale Brewing

Blanco, TX

Well it is officially summer and the thermometer is well in to the 90's and even 100's so its time for a refreshing beer.

Real Ale has stepped up with this Helles style lager. They us German pilsner malt gives subtle malt sweetness, while Callista hops provide an enticing, modern hop aroma of apricot, peach and blackberry. A clean, tidy finish, with moderate bitterness, makes this a true crispy crusher.

Coming in at 4.5% it will not sit heavy and is a great way to relax after a long hot day! If you like Lagers and light hops then this is one for you!

90 IPA

Dogfish Head Brewings

Melton, DE

I know its summer and the temps are at or above 100 but sometimes you just need a nice cold imperial IPA to relax with before bed.

If you like imperial IPA's then this is for you. First brewed in 2001 Dogfish has done this beer right. Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute IPA "perhaps the best IPA in America." An imperial IPA best savored from a snifter, 90 Minute has a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate.

For me it reminds me of Green Ogre so you know I am a fan.

Great lace and head, well balanced grain bill with a heavy piney and citrus hop aromas. At 9% this is not one to chug but instead it should be enjoyed slowly perhaps by the pool at the end of a long hot day.

Crispy One

903 Brewers

Sherman, TX

First let me say this is a special release for 903 and they did it right. The can has a QR Code that takes you to one of their brewers that explains the beer.

For my review this is a great summer time beer and example of an American Lager.

Great lace, clean crisp taste with no bad after taste. This is a great afternoon beer or session beer

Defttones Phantom Bride

Belching Beaver Brewery

San Diego, CA

This beer has a crisp hop flavor coming from a a blend of Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic hops.

This is a refreshing beer and even though it is an IPA the end flavor is mellow.

Y'all's Bock

Revolver Brewing

Granbury, TX

This is a great example of a Texas-Style Bock which in contrast to German Bocks tend to be more carmel and sweet. There aare strong caramel and toffee notes from malts are balanced by the addition of hops to create a super drinkable, classic bock beer.

Great lace and head. This would be a great beer for a cool spring or fall day and is one that I will be trying again after the 100 degree weather passes us by.

Orale

Spoetzl Brewery

Shiner, TX

This is a Mexican Lager brewed with Agave. I must say that the Agave is lost in taste. This is an average Mexican Lager which makes me wonder why Shiner would brew it. The market already has a bunch of beers in this style. I must presume that it sells.

This is one to try and it may become a favoite for you. For me, I would not turn one down but I believe I will continue to look for the next great beer.
